Skill Builder Workshop 3
Meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month (September through May). 5-7pm.
Learn one skill each session, practice and make a project using that skill.
1st month: Basic machine maintenance and sewing a straight line. Show different parts of a sewing machine, practice winding a bobbin and threading machine for sewing. Sew fabric together in a straight line. Project: Burrito pillow case. After completion of project (or before if necessary) clean out bobbin case and other areas of machine, changing the needle.
2nd month: Practice straight line sewing and square up corners of a bag. Make an insulated tote with a flat bottom and a velcro closure (maybe 2). Show two different ways of making a flat bottom on a tote.
3rd month: Sewing curves. Practice sewing concave and convex curves. Project: Christmas Stockings.
4th month: Basic zipper installation, simulation serging. Install a zipper in a basic bag. Project: Pyramid bag.
5th month: Mitered corners. Sew a set of napkins using a mitered corner technique. Project: napkins.
6th month: Ruffles, gathers and tucks. Practice making ruffles tucks and gathers. Project: apron/Twisted tuck wristlet.
7th month: Pattern reading. Learn how to read various patterns. Project: Boudoir shorts.
8th month: Bottonholes. Learn how to make a basic buttonhole. Practice spacing and lining up. Project: kids shirt.
9th month: Applique. Learn different applique techniques. Project: mug rug?
